As well as constantly facilitating original initiatives and joint ventures, ongoing projects currently include the following:
24-hour Crisis Line
Staffed by over 100 dedicated volunteers, this round-the-clock hotline
is the backbone of the Center activities. Receiving thousands of calls
annually, the crisis line offers immediate and long-term support to
victims of sexual violence and their families, as well as fielding
inquiries from the police, legal, medical and welfare professionals. All
walks of life approach the Center for assistance: Young and old,
religious and secular, Jewish, Muslim and Christian, new immigrants
and longstanding residents. The JRCC additionally refers those who
require further psychological or medical treatment to a large local
professional network, with whom longstanding ties are upheld.
Education Department
Raising awareness of the many issues surrounding sexual violence,
JRCC volunteers facilitate Outreach Workshops for the wider
community, focusing on schools, youth groups, community centers,
and at-risk cultural groups on the edges of Israeli society. This vibrant
cadre of men and women additionally implement awareness groups in
local corporate and professional settings, as well as within many
diverse community frameworks who approach the JRCC for
assistance.
An awareness and empowerment program for Russian-Speaking
Immigrants is also incorporated.
Victim-Witness Assistance Program
This project serves as an invaluable supportive mechanism to the
callers who choose to file a criminal complaint against their attacker: a
highly traumatic and arduous process. Project coordinators liaise with
the police and the judiciary, closely following case progress, while
JRCC volunteers accompany survivors throughout, from the hospital to
the police station and law courts, offering emotional and practical
support at all times.
Survivor Support Groups
Callers to the hotline who express a need for additional support can
participate in one of the professionally supervised support groups run
by the JRCC, which cater for the specific needs of rape victims and
incest survivors, as well as tailored programs for people with
cognitive disabilities and women with drug and alcohol addiction who
have been abused. Groups for parents of victims and at-risk
populations are also functional. The JRCC additionally offers a limited
Subsidized Therapy Program for low-income callers to the hotline.
